Obesity surgery in Lithuania

Over 100 different kinds of surgeries are performed in three modern operating rooms at Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Centre including gastric bypass, gastric banding, and gastric balloon surgery. In addition, there is In-patient, One-day Surgery, Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, and Intensive Care divisions as well as single and double wards.

Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Centre staff are professional and experienced caregivers who are dedicated and attentive to each individual patient.

The Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Centre offers patients a developed and cosy environment with an appropriate microclimate maintained through the use of a special ventilation, warming, and conditioning system. Patient safety, especially during surgery, is ensured by an automatic diesel electric power station which provides electricicty in case of a power cut.

The Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Centre provides traditional open surgeries as well as minimally invasive endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery:

  • Endoscopic operations are performed by employing surgical manipulation technology which involves the insertion of an optical device through either the mouth, vagina, or rectum. This is a painless way of performing outpatient treatment (it is not necessary to hospitalise the patient and therefore his/her working capability is not affected).

  • Laparoscopic operations differ from endoscopic ones since they are performed through small orifices or cuts, where laparoscopic devices are inserted to reach the necessary organ. A tiny video camera is installed on one of the laparoscopic devices so surgeons are able to observe the course of the operation on a computer monitor.

Advantages of laparoscopic operations:

  • Patient is able to leave on the same or the next day

  • Patient is not in great pain, since entry wounds are minimal

  • Wound complications (such as infections) appear more rarely

  • Due to the magnification provided by the laparascope, surgeons make fewer mistakes

  • Rehabilitation is quicker; scars are very small or invisible

Both surgical methods (endoscopy and laparoscopy) are widely applied in diagnostics when symptoms of certain diseases are present and organs are examined with the help of an optical device. Thus, the disease is diagnosed promptly and quickly.

Modern laboratory tests and instrumental examinations

With the help of modern laboratory tests and instrument examinations, the Center’s doctors are able to determine a diagnosis and prescribe the necessary treatment in just one or two days. More about laboratory tests and instrumental examinations.
