Mbali Lechler was a founder member of one of the first South African egg donation agencies and Ingrid Bothe worked for the UK’s National Health Service for 9 years; on her return to South Africa she continued her career in the healthcare sector, particulary egg donation.

• FCSA egg donors are of high calibre and are aged between 21 and 31. They all go through extensive evaluation prior to becoming a donor. They complete a detailed questionnaire detailing their medical and family history, donor's education level and occupation. They also have a full gynaecological evaluation and psychological assessment by a clinical psychologist. They all have the following blood tests performed – HIV, CMV, RPR (for syphilis) and Hepatitis B and C serology. Additional tests may also be requested by the recipients. All tests are in line with international legislation and best-practice guidelines.
