• What is hip replacement surgery?
  Hip replacement is an orthopaedic surgical procedure in which the the joint is replaced by a prosthetic implant. Hip replacement surgery can be performed as a total replacement or a hemi (half) replacement.

• When does this need to be done?
  Such joint replacement orthopaedic surgery generally is conducted to relieve severe pain caused by conditions such as arthritis or to fix severe physical joint damage due wear and tear of the joint severe osteoporotic damage or as part of surgery for hip fracture treatment.

• How long does it take?
  The usual duration of hospital day is admission a day prior to surgery for the pre-surgical assessment and tests and after surgery another 6 days in hospital for post-operative care and in-house physiotherapy.

• How fast is my recovery and mobility after surgery?
  Physiotherapy and rehabilitation commences one day after surgery, starting and gradually walking with a frame, and continuing depending on the recovery of the individual. During this period you will be assisted by the nursing staff for your daily needs and looked after by a highly experienced team

Your questions about orthopaedic surgery treatment in Sri Lanka with Asiri

• What category of room is offered in the price?
  Rooms are in the Luxury Category.

• How many days stay is included in ICU/Ward?
  This depends on the surgery, for example for CABG it is all inclusive of 10 day hospital stay.

• Is the cost of implants/stents included in the price where indicated – eg knee/hip replacement, angioplasty?
  Yes. However, for angioplasty the rate is inclusive of ONE STENT only.

• Are complimentary airport transfers provided?
  Yes

• How many days the patient needs to stay (approximately) in Sri Lanka after discharge from the hospital for recovery period before he/she return home for each surgery?
  Again this depends on the surgery. For CABG the patient needs to be seen one week after discharge from hospital. (That is 10 days maximum hospital stay plus 7 days in hotel = about 17-20 days.)

• What will be the price of reasonable hotel accommodation for this purpose near the hospital?
  Ranges from 4 star hotels approx USD 80 to super luxury 5 Star accommodation around USD 130 per night.
