Mr Shair was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to Cambridgeshire Regional Health Authority in 1990 at the age of 34, making him one of the youngest in this period to be appointed to such a demanding and responsible job. As a Consultant with over 20 years experience he has dealt with some of the most challenging conditions with successful outcomes for many of his patients. His work has been widely reported by the national press and on television.
Mr Shair strives to use the least invasive route to eradicate the underlying disease which is causing the problems experienced by each patient. He has wide experience of treating patients with hip and knee problems. He carries out minimally invasive hip joint replacements and his work with cartilage grafting of early arthritis of the knee joint has been recognised in the field.
The Orthopaedics and Spine Specialist Hospital
Between 2002 and 2004 Mr Shair embarked on developing a specialist independent hospital dedicated to the treatment of bone, joint and spinal conditions. He used the experience he had gathered from his visits and work at some of the best hospitals around the world to design, build, equip and staff the hospital. The Orthopaedics and Spine Specialist Hospital was opened in January 2005 where Mr Shair has taken the role of Director there as well as continuing to treat patients.
