Dr Richard Carroll is a Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Specialist in London with extensive training and dual
accreditation in both General Internal Medicine and Interventional
Cardiology. He treats heart problems such as arrhythmia, hypertension
(high blood pressure) and angina.
Dr Carroll works closely with his patients to enhance their
cardiovascular health. Each of his patients receives an individually
tailored treatment plan that will address their medical needs and
concerns. In addition, the satisfaction of his patients and their
comfort is at the core of all his work.
Experienced Cardiologist and Heart Specialist: Dr Carroll
Dr Carroll graduated from Sheffield University Medical School
in 1990. He was awarded the Gold Medal in Clinical Medicine, Clinical
Surgery and Paediatrics. Thereafter, Dr Carroll studied post graduate
general medicine on the Mersey regional rotation where he quickly gained
MRCP and was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians of London. He was then appointed as Cardiology Registrar in the West Midlands Deanery where he continued his training.
In 1997, Dr Carroll took a three year sabbatical to complete his PhD in Molecular Cardiology at the University of London.
He researched the role of the mitochondria in limitation of reperfusion
injury of the human myocardium. Dr Carroll returned to complete his
sub-specialist training in interventional cardiology at the University of Birmingham and was appointed as Consultant Cardiology at North West London Hospital and St Marys Hospital, Paddington in the summer of 2003.
Dr Carroll sees patients with all types of heart problems
such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure,
blackouts, fatigue and heart failure. Dr Carroll is an expert in complex
diagnosis and he is regularly invited to provide second opinions on
difficult cases.

Research and training in cardiology
Dr Carroll's
current research includes understanding the mechanism of heart muscle
damage in high blood pressure. Other research is targeted
on understanding the variable responses of individuals to blood thinning
medications.
Dr Carroll
trains undergraduate medical students and post graduate doctors to
consultant level both in the UK and overseas. He is an invited lecturer
within the NHS and international frameworks of healthcare. He is an
examiner at Imperial College London.
